Driving Smart Solutions: Cost-effective Design Strategies for Manufacturing Success

Volume manufacturing presents a very different set of challenges to small scale, or even prototype manufacturing. In these instances, techniques and approaches considered viable in an R&D phase may fail to translate well into large-scale manufacturing environments. Through conscious decision-making during the R&D process, strategies can be developed which take commercial production into consideration and allow for cost-optimised manufacturing without the need to return to the development phase. This talk will outline examples where forethought and a manufacturing-oriented mindset can be applied even during early R&D activities to identify opportunities to reduce cost, streamline labour, improve testing, and generate an overall improvement in the manufactured cost of a medical device without sacrificing quality, reliability, or good practice.
